The company said that this excavation project will present a substantial cost saving to the Gorgon project by allowing for the 90 kilometre pipeline to be laid in a more direct route to shore. It is expected to be completed in early 2011 and will utilise the ClayCutter X™ as the primary excavation tool.

AGR Subsea Managing Director John Sands said, “We are delighted to exploit the proven ClayCutter X™ equipment on this challenging project. We have made a number of improvements to the deployment and positioning of the tools. The revised system will be able to cope with substantial changes in seabed height and inclination without any interruption in excavation activities.”

In addition, MacDermid Offshore Solutions Australia has been awarded a contract with operator Chevron Australia for the supply of subsea control fluids to the development.

MacDermid’s technical support centre in Western Australia and its fluid manufacturing facility in Melbourne will provide resources for the contract.

Joint venture participants in the Gorgon LNG Development include Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas and Chubu Electric Power.
