The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) has made two New Year appointments, with Matthew Doman assuming the role of Director South Australia and Northern Territory and Chris Lamont taking up the newly created position of Director Government Relations Eastern Australia.

Mr Doman will lead APPEA’s engagement and advocacy in SA and NT, following last month’s retirement of former NT Director Steven Gerhardy.

“A recent study by Deloitte Access Economics confirms that a successful shale gas industry in the NT could eventually create more than 6,000 jobs and boost government revenue by as much as $460 million a year,” APPEA Chief Executive Malcolm Roberts said.

“South Australia has equally exciting possibilities with onshore gas development and offshore petroleum exploration.”

Dr Roberts said Mr Doman has a strong connection to SA and the NT as well as extensive experience in the oil and gas industry.

“In recent years, Matt has been particularly focused on Santos’s projects in the Cooper Basin and the NT. He has been closely involved with industry, government and regional communities in SA and the NT.

“APPEA is delighted to have persuaded Matt to join the team to lead our work in these two very important jurisdictions.”

Meanwhile, Mr Lamont will lead APPEA’s engagement and advocacy in Eastern Australia, with priority given to supporting the Queensland industry after the recent investment of $70 billion in new projects in the state.

Dr Roberts credited Mr Lamont’s considerable experience in policy development and advocacy.

“Chris brings to APPEA broad experience in industry associations, federal government and business. His most recent roles have been as the Managing Director of a successful new business and Executive Director and Deputy to the CEO at the Barangaroo Delivery Authority.

“His experience in government includes serving as a senior public servant and as a ministerial adviser and chief of staff.”
