The Hythane Ford E-450 shuttle bus will be included in the City of Hempstead’s alternative fuel fleet. Hempstead has recently unveiled its alternative fuel station, located at Point Lookout on Long Island, which has the capability of fueling compressed natural gas, hydrogen, and Hythane vehicles.

Hythane is a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen and the Hythane version of the Ford E-450 engine dramatically reduces carbon dioxide, non-methane hydrocarbons and methane emissions in comparison with the natural gas version of the engine. In addition to emission reductions, the use of Hythane fuel provides a 3.9 per cent efficiency gain over the natural gas version of the engine.

The New York State alternative fuel station is the first station in the New York/Long Island area with the capability to fuel Hythane vehicles.
