Maritime and offshore services provider, Drydocks World, has completed the turret for the Shell Prelude FLNG Project.

The turret, measuring almost 100 m high, with a 26 m diameter and weighing over 11,000 t, is designed to ensure the facility can operate safely in extreme weather conditions.

Drydocks World constructed the turret for SBM Offshore, Technip and Shell in Dubai, delivering five modules for the Prelude FLNG Project’s turret mooring system.

The Prelude FLNG Project will see Shell develop the Prelude, Concerto and Crux gas fields, located in permits WA-44L and AC/L9 in the offshore Browse Basin, with the facility intended to remain over the Prelude Field for 25 years.

Shell is leading the delivery of Prelude, working with long-term strategic partners Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries (the Technip Samsung Consortium), while equity interests include Shell (67.5 per cent), INPEX (17.5 per cent), Korea Gas Corporation (10 per cent) and Taiwan’s CPC Corporation (5 per cent).
