Arrow Energy’s Daandine Coal Seam Gas (CSG) Field is located in the Surat Basin, South East Queensland, immediately south of the company’s Kogan North field.
WDS Oil & Gas formerly Delco Energy Australia was contracted to undertake engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on the Daandine Central Gas Processing Facility (CGPF) following successful completion of Arrow’s Tipton West and Kogan North development projects.
Arrow signed a Letter of Intent for procurement with WDS in July 2008, and practical completion was achieved on 27 May 2009.
WDS Oil & Gas Chief Executive Officer was quick to congratulate all staff involved. He said that good planning and co-ordination with Arrow staff was achieved through the use of an EPC contract.

The development of the facility included seven gas compressor units, triethylene glycol (TEG) dehydration and filtration units, various piping, earthworks and civil work, structural work, and instrumentation and electrical work. The CGPF aims to deliver 58.7 terajoules per day (TJ/d) of sales gas at full capacity.
An addition to the contract was for the construction of a 250 mm diameter, 1.5 km Class 600 export gas pipeline and metering station as a tie in to the Braemar 1 Pipeline.
The construction of the site was completed in record time – less than six months – with clearing commencing on 22 October 2008 and mechanical completion being achieved on 9 April 2009.
WDS said that this was achieved through bundling the pipe spooling fabrication into standard work packages so that assembly onsite proceeded in a logical and modular fashion. Fabrication was carried out at the WDS workshops in Hemmant and Kingston.
Another innovation included the onsite assembly of the compressors. The free issue compressors were delivered to site in thirty five 40 foot shipping containers, assembled onto the skids in a lay down area while the concrete slabs were being prepared and moved into position using two 200 tonne cranes.
Because of the tight schedule, WDS said that the site was very busy and required a great deal of co-ordination between the various disciplines. The value of a single constructor controlling all aspects of delivery was proved time and again over the construction period.
A spokesman for Arrow Energy said that credit for the timely and safe delivery of the project must go to the whole team, headed by a WDS team of Project Manager George Solesbury, Senior Project Engineer Brian Excel, Electrical and Instrumentation Project Manager Luke Salter, and Arrow Energy Project Manager Fergal Convery.
Safety was given particular importance on the project and over 48,000 hours were achieved with zero lost time injuries and zero environmental issues.
WDS stated that the successful completion of the Daandine CGPF has enhanced WDS’ good relationship with Arrow and demonstrated that the company has the capability and capacity to continue to deliver as the CSG industry gears up for further expansion.
