Woodside has advised that the Alaric-1 exploration well, located in the Carnarvon Basin, intersected 185 m of gross gas across several zones within the Triassic target. The well is currently being deepened to ensure that the gas column has been fully penetrated.

Woodside said that “initial analysis of drilling fluids suggest the gas could be comparatively liquids rich, but this requires confirmation by further analysis.

“Subsequent to drilling, wireline logging will be conducted to recover gas samples and the well will be plugged and abandoned as planned.”

The gas column falls entirely within Woodside’s 100 per cent owned WA-434-P permit area.

Woodside intends to transport the gas to its Pluto LNG processing plant near Karratha to support the addition of another LNG train. The potential for a second LNG train could mean significant gains for Woodside. Leveraging off existing infrastructure would create economies of scale for the company.
