GasFields Commission checklist a boost for QLD business

A ‘local content’ checklist, released by the GasFields Commission, will aim to assist Queensland businesses seeking opportunities with the state’s onshore gas industry.

The checklist was launched during the Surat Basin Energy & Mining Expo held in Toowoomba from 17–18 June, where the Commission provided the opportunity for local businesses to engage and get information on procurement matters direct from the major gas operators.

GasFields Commissioner Shane Charles said a wide range of Queensland businesses are keen to understand more about how to do business with the onshore gas industry.

Mr Charles said many businesses were also seeking information from the gas operators about their future development activities and the types of goods and services the industry will require as it transitions from the construction phase to long term production.

“Local businesses need to do their homework and research the needs of individual projects, pre-qualification requirements and company procurement processes in order to determine if there is an opportunity for them,” Mr Charles said.

Mr Charles added that one of the critical steps is understanding where a business may fit in the tiered gas industry supply chain.
