Glenaras drilling to commence; pipeline talks advancing

Jemena's pipeline corridor through the Galilee Basin.

The Easternwell Rig 101 has commenced mobilisation from Longreach to the Glenaras Gas Project in ATP 2019 in Queensland’s Galilee Basin.

With rig up and testing of equipment to commence this week, the rig is scheduled to commence drilling on or around 26 March.

The rig will drill three lateral wells and conduct a production testing pilot with the potential to ultimately convert a large portion of the 5,314 PJ of 3C Resources to Reserves and deliver up to 73 PJ/a into the east coast gas market.

The first phase includes drilling a vertical pilot hole to test the various seams and identify the optimal coal target for the lateral wells.

The test hole will then be plugged back and three separate lateral wells will be drilled into the target coal.

Galilee Basin pipeline

In 2017, Jemena and Galilee Energy signed a MoU for the construction of a large diameter pipeline to deliver up to 200 TJ/d from the Glenaras Gas Project to the east coast market from 2022.

Jemena has commenced pre-front end engineering and design (FEED) and is in the process of preparing applications for a pipeline license and environmental approvals.

Over the next six weeks, Jemena plans to commence field surveys, conduct flyovers of preferred routes and initiate consultations with landholders.

Jemena is developing two pipeline options: the first being designed to carry gas from the Galilee Basin only (200-300 TJ/d); the second being designed to carry gas from the Northern Territory as well as the Galilee Basin (up to 700 TJ/d).
