Leighton Contractors has been awarded a fixed-price construction contract for a 60 megawatt open-cycle power plant to be located adjacent to APA Group’s existing Diamantina Power Station site in Queensland.

The power station will be a joint venture between APA Group and AGL and will be known as the Leichhardt Power Station.

Construction of the Leichhardt Power Station will commence in early 2013, with commissioning scheduled for mid-2014, by which time the Diamantina Power Station will be fully operational.
