Alliance wins AIPM award
The North Queensland Gas Pipeline Alliance has been awarded an Australian Institute of Project Management – National Project Management Achievement Award in the category of Regional Development for its work on the North Queensland Gas Pipeline (NQGP) project.
The 392 km gas pipeline and 10 MW compression facility transports CSG from Moranbah to Townsville, making gas available to North Queensland for the first time.
Project manager Jim Thompson said “The NQGP project has set a series of new benchmarks for the delivery of pipelines. A collaborative project management approach allowed the alliance to focus as a team on ‘best for project’ outcomes that upheld values such as innovation, quality, safety and consideration for the community and environment.

APA Group expansions
APA Group has decided to proceed with the expansion of its Moomba to Sydney Pipeline (MSP) and its Queensland gas distribution network to meet rising gas demand.
The MSP expansion program will cost in the order of $100million and will increase capacity by 20 per cent. Capacity on the pipeline will be increased progressively over the next few years, with the first tranche of additional capacity available this winter. The enhanced storage capacity of the MSP will increase the ability of the pipeline to meet power station gas demand as well as existing winter peak gas demand.
In addition, APA has approved a major expansion of its natural gas network in Queensland’s Gold Coast area. This initial $17 million investment will extend the distribution network to service up to 9,000 new homes in the upper Coomera – Pimpama area.
APA owns and operates the network which services residential and business gas users from South Brisbane to the Gold Coast. Growth in demand on the natural gas network flows through to APA’s Roma to Brisbane Pipeline.
APA Managing Director Mick McCormack said there was potential to further extend the network to additional home development sites in the growing Brisbane to Gold Coast corridor, with two major housing developers recently committing to make natural gas available to 3,000 new homes.
