Federal Minister for Resources and Energy Martin Ferguson congratulated the industry partners – Woodside, BHP Billiton, BP, Chevron, Japan Australia LNG and Shell – on being part of an historic acceleration in gas production, at a ceremony held in Canberra to mark the anniversary.

"Can you imagine what Western Australia would be like today, or what its future would hold, without this development?" Mr Ferguson said.

Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association Chief Executive Belinda Robinson said that the project established Australia’s LNG industry and paved the way for new projects to proceed, helping Australia to become a leading exporter of LNG.

“For 25 years, the North West Shelf Venture has delivered reliable and affordable natural gas for West Australians. Today it contributes 65 per cent of Western Australia’s domestic gas supply,” Ms Robinson said.
