Former Federal Resources and Energy Minister, and Labor party elder, Martin Ferguson has called on the recently re-elected NSW Government to do more to develop the state’s gas resources.

Mr Ferguson said NSW Premier Mike Baird now has a mandate to progress with onshore gas development, while condemning NSW Labor’s pre-election policy for a state-wide moratorium on CSG.

“I hope that the Labor party and some sections of trade unions do reassess their position,” Mr Ferguson said.

“The Baird government has a mandate on gas development and electricity privatisation.”

Mr Ferguson, who is currently a Non-Executive Director of BG Group and Chair for the Australia Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) advisory board, added that anti-gas campaigns have ignored the science and threaten job security.
