Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has appointed Wade Noonan to the role of Minister for Resources, Industry and Employment.

The former Minister for Police and Corrections has returned following a three-month absence, and takes over the resources portfolio from Lily D’Ambrosio.

Ms D’Ambrosio will take on the new portfolio of Energy, Environment and Climate Change.

This has drawn concern from the some in energy industry about having energy and environment as part of the same portfolio.

The deadline for Victoria to justify or remove its ban on coal seam gas drilling is drawing closer, but there isn’t much hope in industry circles that the moratorium will be lifted.

In 2014 the previous Victorian Government froze planning for all onshore gas developments in the state, which was followed by a parliamentary inquiry from the newly-elected Andrews government.

The inquiry into coal seam gas development in Victoria will hand down its verdict on June 8.
